Listed below are the major equipment available. Where applicable, links to Google calendars are included for lab members to sign up for time on the equipment. Others wishing to use equipment should contact Daniela Fera
Main Laboratory (SCI 293)
Mosquito Crystallization Robot
Sets up trays in 96-well format; can dispense from crystal screens (as low as 100nL for dry transfer) as well additive screens (down to 15nL for wet-transfer); can set dispense up to 4 drops per well.
All users must be trained by Daniela Fera. Instructions and Video Pre-run Questionnaire (complete before requesting training) Calendar |
Stereomicroscope
Can be used for looking at crystal trays set up with the Mosquito or manually.
|
EM Glow Discharger
Makes EM grids hydrophilic, which is necessary before putting protein sample on the grids. Used for negative stain and cryo-EM studies.
|
Bacterial Incubator/Shaker
Infors HT Multitron Standard - Can shake up to 12 two-liter flasks at variable temperatures (above and below room temperature).
Calendar |
Microcentrifuge
Non-refrigerated. Can hold and spin up to 24 eppendorf tubes.
|
Refrigerated Centrifuge
Adaptors available for spinning 15- and 50-mL falcon tubes.
|
NanoDrop One
UV-Vis Spectrophotometer. Used to obtain DNA and protein sample concentrations. Requires only 2uL of sample, or larger volumes if a cuvette is used.
|
BLItz
|
AKTA Purifier FPLC
High quality protein purification. Capable of both ion exchange and size exclusion chromatography.
Calendar Instructions |
AKTA Pure FPLC
High quality protein purification. Capable of both ion exchange and size exclusion chromatography. Can connect multiple columns simultaneously. Calendar Instructions |
DNA Gel Electrophoresis Chamber
Runs agarose gels. Separates DNA strands by size.
|
Protein Gel Electrophoresis Chamber
Runs polyacrylamide gels (up to 4 simultaneously). Separates protein bands by size.
